Bajaj Urbanite electric scooter spied again, could be called 'Chetak chic electric'

As Bajaj Auto continues to test its Urbanite branded scooters, a test mule has been spotted once again. However, the test mule in the photograph is camouflaged and we are yet to see a final version of the upcoming product. Regular readers would know that Bajaj Auto has sent out an invitation for an event that is scheduled on 16 October.

Another test mule of the upcoming Bajaj electric scooter shows itself just before the launch is scheduled (16 October).

The electric scooter, as claimed by a report from last week, will be sold in a phased manner, and it will be first available in Pune and Bengaluru. The same report also added that Bajaj Auto will set up charging points at the buyer’s home for an extra price.

Bajaj Auto may revive its iconic scooter brands with the electric scooter. The Pune-based two-wheeler manufacturer has reportedly shortlisted three names – Chetak, Legend and Stride. A leaked trademark application filing (image below) has suggested that the upcoming electric scooter will be called the Chetak Chic.

If you ignore the camouflaging stickers, the electric scooters appear to be very close to being production-ready. Previous sightings have already revealed features such as LED lighting and backlit switchgear along with retro styling. Leaked sketches, too, have confirmed retro design for the upcoming scooter range from Bajaj Auto. The instrument console will be a circular unit to go with the old-school theme of the scooter, while the information will most likely be displayed on a fully digital screen. Bluetooth and 4G connectivity can also be part of the package. We won’t be surprised to see an under-seat USB charger too.

The hardware specifications will include a single-sided suspension with anti-dive function at the front. The rear will most likely feature a single-sided spring to perform the shock absorption tasks. Anchoring power will come from a disc brake at the front, although we cannot say the same about the rear. Many existing products in the electric two-wheeler space come with disc brakes on both wheels as standard, and we may see a similar setup on the upcoming Bajaj product.

The performance sheet is still a mystery. However, the source report of the new spy photographs claims that the numbers are likely to be at par with the Ather 450. The top-speed can be close to 80 km/h, adds the report.

A trademark application has revealed the Chetak Chic Electric tag. Bajaj Auto has reportedly shortlisted three names for the upcoming electric scooter.
