SAIC Motor will enter India with an MG-badged, Baojun 530-based SUV in Q2 2019. RushLane reader A Kundnani spotted a Baojun 530 undergoing road testing in the country recently.

SAIC Motor will re-engineer the Baojun 530 extensively to bring it to the level of the MG brand.

Introduced in 2010, Baojun is a low-cost brand from the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture for low tier Chinese cities. The 530 is the third Baojun SUV that debuted at Auto Guangzhou 2017 in November. The compact SUV is 4,655 mm long, 1,835 mm wide and 1,760 mm high. It has a 2,750 mm wheelbase. It is available with a 110 kW (149.56 PS) 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and a 101 kW (137.32 PS) 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.

SAIC Motor will sell all its vehicles in India under the MG brand. A report from Autocar India says that company will re-engineer the Baojun 530 extensively for our market. The MG-badged version will have a different grille and bumpers in a design similar to those of originally MG models. It is expected to employ FCA’s 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine that already powers the Jeep Compass and will find its place even in the Tata Harrier due in Q1 2019.

The Baojun 530-based MG SUV's production will take place in Halol, Gujarat.
