In April, a report citing Rajeev Chaba, President and MD, MG India, had said that MG is testing the Baojun E100 in India. Now, Autocar India has published spy shots showing the EV.

SAIC Motor will launch all its products in India under the MG brand.

SAIC Motor has imported a number of its models as well as a few JV models, including a sedan, the MG ZS, MG RX5 (Roewe RX5), Roewe E RX5 electric SUV, Baojun 530 and Baojun E100 for road tests. Baojun is a low-cost brand from a tripartite joint venture of SAIC Motor, Wuling Motors and GM China. The Baojun E100 is SAIC-GM-Wuling’s first electric vehicle.

The Baojun E100 is an urban EV with ultra-compact dimensions. It is 2,488 mm long, 1,506 mm wide and 1,617 mm high. It has a 1,600 mm wheelbase. The pint-sized EV has a turning radius of just 3.7 metres, which makes getting in and out of tight spaces very convenient. It seats only two people, however.

The Baojun E100 uses a single electric motor that generates 29 kW (39.43 PS) and 110 Nm of torque. This motor draws energy from a 14.9 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack that takes 7.5 hours to charge. A full charge provided a driving range of 155 km initially, but last month an upgrade increased the number by almost 30% to 200 km. The EV can attain a maximum speed of 100 km/h.

The Baojun E100 offers a driving range of 200 km.

The Baojun E100 EV is unlikely to reach Indian showrooms anytime soon. Reports say that the company will enter the market here with a Baojun 530-based SUV by June 2019.
