India-bound Benelli Imperiale 400 launched in China at CNY 23,800
The India-bound Benelli Imperiale 400 has been launched in China at CNY 23,800 (INR 2.40 lakhs). The retro-styled Royal Enfield competitor is expected to reach our shores this festive season.

Benelli Imperiale 400 bears aluminium alloy rims with chrome spoked wheels while the spring-based rider seat adds to the retro charm. Its circular retro headlamp gets a chrome outlining. Same as in the case of the twin-pod instrumentation. The tail lamp and indicators add to the charm. However, the tank pad on the fuel tank has a sharp resemblance of the Royal Enfield Classic 350.
Suspension of the Benelli Imperiale 400 is courtesy conventional 41 mm telescopic forks up front and twin springs at the rear. The bike tips the scales at 205 kg and has a ground clearance of 150 mm. Its fuel tank can store 12-litres of petrol. The motorcycle has 19-inch and 18-inch wheels at the front and rear, respectively. The front wheel has been shod with 110/90 spec rubber, while the rear rim is draped in a 130/80 tyre. The bike has a wheelbase of 1,440 mm.
Powering the Benelli Imperiale 400 is a 374 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, SOHC unit. Coupled to a 5-speed gearbox, the engine produces 21.07 PS of power and 29 Nm of peak torque. The powerplant is Euro 4 compliant and gets fuel injection. Braking power comes from a 300 mm single disc rotor up front with twin-piston calliper and a 240 mm disc rotor at rear with a single-piston calliper. ABS is a standard fitment.

Benelli India recently launched the Benelli Leoncino 500 at INR 4.79 lakhs (ex-showroom, pan-India). Also, the Sino-Italian brand wants to introduce a budget 400 cc motorcycle to compete with Royal Enfield and Jawa models.
