Moneycontrol.com reports that Bajaj Auto is developing a bigger, more powerful version of the Bajaj Avenger, in a bid to compete with the Royal Enfield motorcycles.

The Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise costs INR 89,690, ex-showroom, Delhi.

Currently, Bajaj sells the Avenger in 150cc and 220 cc guise. The latter comes in Cruise and Street variants, while the former is only available in Street variant. Speaking to Moneycontrol, a senior Bajaj executive said:

The Avenger is a very strong and old brand for us. And there is a good amount of brand recall for it. We have been working on an upgrade for the Avenger but we will have to take a call on this at a later stage, we have still not decided anything concrete.

As per the website’s sources, the Avenger will employ the Dominar’s 373.3cc single cylinder engine. In the Dominar, the triple spark engine with liquid cooling makes 35 PS of power at 8,000 rpm, and 35 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine works in tandem with a 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch. Expect Bajaj to tune the frame and the engine to suit the Avenger’s character. The Avenger was first launched in 2001; and by March 2018, a new variant of the Avenger will reportedly be launched. However, the specifics of the new variant are not known.

Bajaj launched the Avenger 150 Street in October 2015.

The bigger capacity Bajaj Avenger once launched, would primarily rival the Royal Enfield Thunderbird, and the UM Renegade range in the segment.
