Spied - BMW 1 Series arrives at Indian dealerships
The BMW 1 Series's local launch is to take place on the 3rd of September, and in accordance to the event, BMW dealers have received vehicles for display and initial deliveries. Seen here is a demo car from an Indian dealer yard sent by our reader Sam.
The BMW 1 Series would launch with one petrol and one diesel engine option. The petrol motor is a 1.6-liter turbocharged unit that creates 136bhp and 220Nm of peak power and torque. This engine is driven via an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power down via the rear wheels.
The petrol engine's ARAI-rated fuel efficiency is 16.28km/l and this package would go into the BMW 1 Series 116i variant.
Shifting attention to the big-seller, the diesel engine is the 2.0-liter motor that India's familiar with through the 3 Series and the base 5 Series variant. In the 1 Series, this engine is calibrated to produce a peak output of 143bhp and a peak torque of 320Nm, paired to the same 8-speed gearbox. ARAI-rated fuel economy for the diesel stands at 20.58kpl.
In a preparatory document released by BMW India to explain the product to would-be customers, the features confirmed were electric driver seat with memory function, glass roof, auto start-stop function, 6.5-inch iDrive display, 7-speaker 205W output sound system, and rear parking sensors.
BMW India will assemble the 1 Series at its Chennai plant. Ex-showroom prices of the car are likely to fall between INR 20-25 lakh.
