BMW 1 Series Sedan rendered based on leaked patents
Will be pitted against the Audi A3 Sedan and the Mercedes CLA.
At the Auto Guangzhou 2015, BMW introduced the BMW Concept Compact Sedan previewing the first-ever BMW 1 Series Sedan (codename: BMW F52). Test mules of the 1 Series Sedan have been spotted on several occasions since September 2014, but last month, many of the exterior components that will define its design were leaked through patent images.
Based on the leaks, a speculative rendering by IAB's digital artist Shoeb Kalania previews the front-end of production BMW 1 Series Sedan, which puts on the traditional BMW design features.
The BMW 1 Series Sedan will be based on the UKL front-wheel drive platform which is currently used by the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer and BMW X1, as well as the MINI 3-door, MINI 5-door, MINI Clubman and MINI Convertible. The interior, spy shots show, is downloaded from the UKL based cars featuring the freestanding iDrive display and a stubby gear selector.
The rival the Audi A3 Sedan and the Mercedes CLA will likely spawn the third generation BMW 1 Series hatchback later this decade. Initially the 1 Series sedan will be sold to China, reports said last year.
