Geneva Live - Say hello to the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo

We're coming to you live from the BMW stall at the Geneva Motor Show. The first German world premiere for this year's show happens to be the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo.

While the car was announced over a month ago, this is the first unveiling of the 3 GT.

As you would expect, the 3 GT is the 3 Series with a notchback design. In fact, it looks like a miniature 5 GT (which BMW already sell in India).

The frameless windows and coupe like profile of the rear give the 3 GT a unique identity. Also at the rear, an active rear spoiler – the first on a BMW – adds to the aesthetic appeal and reduces lift at highway speeds.

How has the space changed on the inside? The front and rear passengers benefit from a seating position that is 59 mm higher than the sedan version, while offering extra headroom. For the rear seat passengers, a full 70mm of additional legroom over the Sedan and Sports Wagon is present.

The boot of the car has also increased to 520 liters from the sedan version, an increase of 25 liters we are told.

The 3 GT will be available in three lines - Sport, Luxury and Modern. An additional M Sport version can also be kitted out.

Powering the 3 GT will be the 2.0-liter 4 cylinder TwinTurbo engine in the 328i guise. It produces 240bhp of power while churning 345Nm of torque. In India, we see this engine power the 3 Series sedan 328i as well.

If you would like more power, the 335i is just your cup of tea. Powering this is the 3.0-liter inline 6 cylinder engine producing 300bhp of power and 406Nm of torque.

Both the engines will come equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission as standard.

Would BMW want to introduce the 3 GT in India considering that they're already selling its bigger brother, the 5 GT?
