As BMW streamlines its extensive line-up of luxury vehicles to counteract the negative factors in growth, a decision has been made on the future of the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo.

Introduced in February 2013, the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo is based on the previous generation long-wheelbase BMW 3 Series saloon. It received a facelift in May 2016.

BMW will axe a few models to reduce product portfolio complexity. About the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, it has said that “despite a good level of demand, no successor model will be developed.” Introduced in February 2013, it is based on the previous generation long-wheelbase BMW 3 Series saloon.

While the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo is facing a dead-end, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is going to remain in the line-up. A second generation BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, codenamed ‘BMW G26’, is in the works, spy shots have revealed. It will have a more individual design to have a higher level of differentiation from the BMW 3 Series. The redesigned model will spawn the Munich-built BMW i4 pure electric car in 2021.

Unlike the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe will undergo a full model change. The second-gen model will spawn the BMW i4 pure electric car.
