Stretched BMW 3 Series previewed, heading to Auto China this month
BMW has no plans to sell the long wheelbase 3 Series model outside China, but we see it changing soon as many BMW owners in places like India find their rear seats ideally suited for their journeys.
BMW has stretched the regular 3 Series' wheelbase by 110mm to provide 2,920mm of utilizable space for passengers. The overall length has increased to 4,734mm.
The visual differences on the longer model include the larger rear doors and the modified chrome window surround that stretches till the C-pillar.
BMW offers the lengthened 3 Series in three flavors, a 320Li powered by a 2.0-liter turbo producing 181hp, the 328Li producing 242hp with the same gasoline engine complemented by the top-end 335Li drawing power from a 3.0-liter turbocharged-six outputting 303hp.
An eight speed automatic transmission is a standard feature between the engine and the rear wheels. It will be the responsibility of BMW's new Shenyang production plant to build the stretched 3 Series alongside the 5-Series LWB, yet another China-specific model.
