BMW 6 Series GT caught sans camouflage for the first time

A BimmerToday reader has presented the web with the first live photos of the BMW 6 Series GT on the roads. The BMW 5 Series-based hatchback, unveiled last month, has its market launch programmed in November 2017.

BMW will sell the BMW 6 Series in 630i, 640i, 640i xDrive, 630d and 630d xDrive models.

The BMW 6 Series GT is 5,091 mm long, 1,902 mm wide and 1,538 mm tall, and has a 3,070 mm-long wheelbase. Underpinned by the CLAR rear-wheel drive platform, the BMW 5 Series GT successor is up to 150 kg lighter than the 5 Series GT. It has 610 litres of boot space, expandable to 1,800 litres folding the rear seats.

The BMW 6 Series will sell in 630i, 640i, 640i xDrive, 640d and 640d xDrive variants. The 630i GT has a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 258 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The 640i and 640i xDrive sport a 3.0-litre petrol engine good for 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque. The 630d and 630d xDrive get their power from a 3.0-litre diesel engine good for 265 hp and 620 Nm of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission is standard.

Adaptive LED headlights with LED DRLs, 21-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights and active rear spoiler are the BMW 6 Series GT's exterior highlights. Inside, it features four-zone automatic climate control and front seats with ventilation and massage function. Further appointments are the electrically adjustable comfort rear seats, LED mood lighting and iDrive infotainment system with a 10.25-inch display. The available Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System has a 10-channel amplifier with an output of 1,400 watts. With 16 partially illuminated speakers, it features dynamic sound equalising.

The BMW 6 Series GT will compete with the Audi A5 Sportback internationally.

The BMW 6 Series GT range starts at €62,300 in Germany. Its Indian launch will take place at Auto Expo 2018 in February. BMW India will assemble the 6 Series GT at the Chennai plant.
