Russia - BMW factory rolls out its 100,000th car

BMW and its Russian production ally Avtotor rolled out the 100,000th car from the Kaliningrad plant this month. BMW and Avtotor have been producing cars in Russia since 1999, after a partnership was forged in 1997.

The BMW 528i xDrive M Sport celebrates the success of the joint venture with customers by offering the following features -

  • 'Anthracite' upholstery on the headliner
  • Sports front seats stitched in Dakota leather
  • M-Sport steering wheel
  • Brake Energy Regeneration
  • Drive mode selector that includes the 'Eco Pro' setting
  • Servotronic power steering
  • Bi-xenon headlights
  • LED fog lights
  • 18-inch alloy wheels

Under the hood, you would find a four-cylinder engine displacing 2.0 liters, and producing an output of 245 hp. Mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, power is transferred to the road via a four-wheel drive system.

Production at Kaliningrad started in 1999 and a full range of BMW models are assembled today.

Avtotor assembles a host of BMW cars including the 3 Series and 7 Series sedans. In 2004, the previous gen 5 Series (E60) was launched in Russia before being introduced in every other export market, the press release notes.
