BMW i3 electric city car's head & tail lights revealed
BMW is betting big on its upcoming "i" branded electric cars to redefine the future of mobility. The BMW i3 is a city car while the BMW i8 is a stylish low slung electric supercar both of which are currently in the testing phase.
Thanks to JokeForBlog, today we can present to you patent leaks that reveal the headlights and taillights of the car.
Take a quick look at the headlamps and you will sense that there's the BMW aura in it. However the signature corona rings are missing. Instead the LED element is trough shaped hinting at the future BMW headlight design? Both halogen and HID units are available suggesting the possibility of a two-tiered model trim level.
The traditional L-Shaped taillight elements are extended further and the new "blade" design theme is adopted here. The lamp designs are very close to that of the concept car, and at times this is a rarity.
The BMW i3 will be powered by a 134bhp electric motor driving the rear wheels. The motor extracts electricity from a 16KWh Li-ion battery pack. The estimated driving range is about 160km and if that is not enough, there will be a range extender option.
The i3 could be the first mass produced car built extensively using Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP). The electric city car is likely to make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
BMW say that close to 100,000 people worldwide have already expressed interest in their EV.
