INTERMOT 2014 Live - BMW R 1200 RS, BMW R 1200 R

ABS and ASC are offered as standard equipment.

The BMW R 1200 RS and R 1200 R boxer-engined sports tourers were unveiled at the ongoing INTERMOT 2014 motorcycle expo in Cologne, Germany.

The R 1200 RS is a faired motorbike while the R 1200 R adopts a naked styling. The fairing of the R 1200 RS is designed taking aerodynamics into serious consideration and features an adjustable windshield. The R 1200 R has to be content with an undramatic headlamp unit, but the rest of the design is common.

The twins are propelled by the R 1200 GS' flat-twin boxer engine (horizontally opposed cylinders) producing 125 PS and 125 Nm of torque. The traditional sports tourers come equipped with a 6-speed gearbox. BMW says that the faired motorcycle has its engine tuned to deliver better low-end torque than the R 1200 R.

The bikes are formed on a new tubular steel bridge frame which holds the flat-twin boxer as a self supporting element. The traditional suspension system employs upside down telescopic fork at the front and an EVO paralever at the rear. The system is supported by Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) which offers two modes - Road and Dynamic.

The equipment list includes ABS and ASC (Automatic Stability Control) as standard features on both bikes while optional equipment include Dynamic Traction Control (DTC).
