BMW X1 facelift spied testing in Pune

It has not taken very long for BMW to realize the consequences of the Audi Q3's launch in the Indian market. If left to chance, the Q3 could dismantle the X1 from the top spot over time.

As we've explained previously, BMW has never been caught sleeping while a competitor is gearing up for a launch.

Having seen the first batch of Audi Q3s vaporize like spirit, BMW India is fast-forwarding the launch of the X1 facelift that was shown at the New York Auto Show in early April. Team BHP member Dieselite (a catchy name, trending with the current times) has spotted this test mule outside ARAI, Pune.

BMW X1 facelift - What's changed?

The psychedelic camouflage hides a new front bumper and subtly remodeled headlights, redesigned side mirrors, redesigned taillights and a modest update on the rear bumper.

Moving to the interior, the side of the center console angled towards the driver, is shallower and has a different surface quality. The sound and climate system controls panel has a high-gloss black surface, matching the air vent surround.

Electroplated surrounds for the shifter and the center console cup holder, as well as a chrome clip on the headlamp switch complete additions to the cabin.

BMW has introduced a 2-liter Twin Power turbocharged petrol engine (also used on the 520i in India) on the X1 facelift paired to a new 8-speed Steptronic AT. We have to wait and see if the same configuration follows to India. The mainstay variant will be the ones powered by the 2-liter diesel engine. We have not seen BMW launch xDrive technology on the X1 for India. This is another area that will be interesting to follow.

With BMW rushing with the homologation, we think the new X1 will be present in showrooms before Diwali.
