Could be reserved for China.

The second generation BMW X1 has been known to include a long-wheelbase version from even before its revealing in July 2015. The 2016 BMW X1 LWB has been spied testing several times on Chinese roads, but now, PCauto.com.cn has published its patent images which fully reveal its exterior, for the first time.

The 2016 BMW X1 LWB could be around 100 mm longer than the 2016 BMW X1.

As seen in the patent images, the X1 LWB's exterior is completely identical to the regular X1. Looking at the rear door and window, the rear passenger compartment can be seen extended backwards moderately and that seems to be the only change. The model name will probably bear the familiar 'Li' suffix we've known so far to be included in other long-wheelbase version models of BMW.

China having a big appetite for long-wheelbase version vehicles, will be the primary market for the the BMW X1 long-wheelbase. In its launch market, it will be powered by a 2.0-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The engine should be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The standard wheelbase X1 is 4,439 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,670 mm. The long-wheelbase version's could be stretched by around 100 mm.

Europe and North America may not get the BMW X1 LWB, but a 7-seat version is on the cards for global markets.
