Will go on sale in Europe in 2017.

The long-rumoured BMW X2 is finally set to go official this year as the Bavarian automaker's third 'Sports Activity Coupe' after the BMW X6 and the BMW X4. A report last month said that the BMW X2 will have its world premiere at the 2016 Paris Motor Show that will open for press on 29 September. A set of speculative renderings from Auto Bild preview the BMW X2 months ahead of its global debut.

The BMW X2 will be based on the UKL front-wheel drive platform.

The BMW X2 was previously rendered in a similar fashion to the BMW X6 and the BMW X4. But the renderings from the German publication preview a fresh start for the future coupe-styled BMW crossovers, starting with the X2.

The BMW X2 will be based on the the UKL front-wheel drive platform sourced from sister brand MINI, currently employed in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer, and of course, the second generation BMW X1. According to the new report, the BMW X2 will be offered with three-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with outputs ranging from 116 to 192 PS and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with outputs ranging from 150 to 245 hp.

Transmission choices should include 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive will be standard, but the xDrive all-wheel drive system will be available moving up the range.
