BMW X2 sports crossover based on the UKL platform - Rendering
To rival the Mercedes GLA and next gen Mini Countryman.
Topspeed has posted a rendering of the BMW X2, based on spyshots of pre-production prototypes. The X2 will be BMW's entry level sports crossover (or Sports Activity Vehicle, as BMW calls it).
The rendering gives an insight into the design of its rear end, which is characterized by a strong shoulder line, high waist line, and a sloped rear windshield. Topspeed suggests that the rear of the BMW X2 will look different from the liftback-inspired design of its bigger brothers: the BMW X4 and X6.
Codenamed F47, the BMW X2 will be based on the front-wheel-drive UKL1 platform. It will be the fourth BMW car from this platform (others being the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer).
Engine lineup is likely to be borrowed from the new X1, which includes a range of 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. The 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engine lineup could also be offered in base variants. A 6-speed manual and 8-speed Steptronic transmission will serve as transmission options, while an xDrive all-wheel drive should be reserved for top-spec variants.
