Leaked documents have revealed the technical specifications of the BS-VI compliant Yamaha FZ series. The FZ series, like the YZF-R15, will suffer from a performance reduction with the BS-VI upgrade.

The leaked document reveals that the upcoming, BS-VI compliant Yamaha FZ series will carry lower power output than the BS-IV version.

The BS-VI compliant FZ series will draw 9.1 kW or 12.4 PS of peak power from its 149 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 2-valve, SOHC motor. In comparison, the BS-IV compliant model makes 9.7 kW or 13.2 PS of maximum power. The engine will be linked to a five-speed gearbox.

The dimensions of the BS-VI complaint FZ series will be identical to the outgoing BS-IV models. Thus, the BS-VI FZ series will be 1,990 mm long, 780 mm wide and 1,080 mm tall. The seat height (790 mm) and the ground clearance (165 mm), too, should be unchanged.

The feature and specification list of the BS-VI versions, apart from the changes to the engine, is not likely to be much different from the BS-IV models. Thus, the upcoming FZ and FZ-S should retain the LED headlight, negative LCD instrument console and a single-piece, step-up seat. The more premium model among the two, the FZ-S, should benefit from additional body panels such as an under cowl and chrome highlights.

The shock absorption tasks will be performed by telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the back. Anchoring department will comprise disc brakes on both wheels. The safety net of single-channel ABS will be available as standard. Tyre specifications should also remain identical to the outgoing model, and we would see 100/80-17 front and 140/60-17 rear units on the BS-VI model.

The BS-VI compliant range of motorcycles, as confirmed by Yamaha Motor India, will start to arrive from November 2019. The updated range will carry a premium of 10% to 15% over the outgoing series. The current FZ retails at INR 96,680*, while the current FZ-S is priced at INR 98,680*.

The BS-IV compliant Yamaha FZ series is available with special, festive season discounts and benefits.
