Buyers preferring Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 over the Continental GT 650

It has been a little over a month since Royal Enfield launched the Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650 in the Indian market. Which one is outselling the other? Dealers suggest that the demand for the Interceptor INT 650 is more than the Continental GT 650. The Interceptor INT 650 costs INR 2.50 lakh onwards while the Continental GT 650 retails at INR 2.65 lakh onwards – both ex-showroom Delhi prices.

The Royal Enfield Interceptor INT 650, priced INR 15,000 lower than the Continental GT 650, is more in demand.

The Interceptor INT 650 is a neo-classic roadster that delivers a laid-back ride experience. The Continental GT 650, on the other hand, is a cafe racer that features forward leaning and sporty ergonomics with clip-on style handlebars.

Both motorcycles are built around the same twin cradle, tubular steel frame that Royal Enfield developed in conjunction with Harris Performance. Shock absorbing tasks are performed by 41 mm conventional telescopic fork at the front and twin-shock, a gas-charge unit with piggyback reservoirs at the rear. Anchoring tasks are performed by 320 mm disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the back and ABS comes as standard.

The 650 Twins use Royal Enfield’s newly developed the 648 cc, parallel-twin cylinder, air & oil cooled engine, SOHC engine that churns out 47 bhp of power at 7,250 rpm and 52 Nm of peak torque at 5,250 rpm. The gearbox features a slipper clutch with an assist feature.

Siddhartha Lal, CEO, Royal Enfield, has confirmed that the company would not introduce more motorcycles on the 650 platform as the new emission norms have derailed the product plans.
