Car launches in India in February 2015 - IAB Picks

The second month of the new year will see at least four car launches in India. With the financial year coming to a close, certain car makers are still awaiting the new Budget, and the changes that could come into effect regarding excise duty, before launching their products. Nevertheless, here's what the car enthusiast can look forward to in February -

1. 2015 Mercedes-Benz C Class diesel:

The C Class diesel will come via the CBU route.

Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed that it will launch the diesel variant of the new C Class on February 11. As reported earlier, the new C Class diesel will also be imported via the CBU route, just like the petrol C200 model.

Power for the new C200 CDI will come from the same 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine matched to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission turning the rear wheels. The car is expected to be rich on equipment with features such as LED headlights, a Burmester audio system and a touch-pad controlled media system among other features.

2. Hyundai Verna Facelift:

The Verna facelift is already on sale in Russia and China.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) will reportedly launch the refreshed Verna in India on February 16. With a redesigned front fascia, and the same set of powerful engines, HMIL hopes to regain lost market share with the update.

Interior changes are not expected, but reports suggest that a new touchscreen infotainment system could be in the offing. Stay tuned for our review of the refreshed Verna shortly.

3. VW Jetta Facelift:

The Jetta will get a revised front fascia and new interior components.

VW India has confirmed the launch of the refreshed Jetta on February 17. The executive sedan will benefit from a new grille, bumper and redesigned taillights. Inside, the Jetta is expected to feature an updated dashboard with the new 3-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel and infotainment system.

The engines, which include a 1.4-liter TSI and a 2.0-liter TDI, will continue without changes. The latter is also offered with a DSG transmission.

4. BMW i8:

The BMW i8 made its local debut at the Auto Expo 2014.

BMW's flagship product will launch in India on February 18, as confirmed by the car maker. The company is expected to import limited units in the first year owing to high international demand.

Powering the i8 is a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine assisted by an electric motor with a combined output of 360 bhp and 570 Nm of torque. The result is that the 1,485 kg sportscar accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds with a top-speed of 250 km/h.
