GM files patents for a compact Chevrolet SUV; Is it coming to India?

We have been constantly discussing the possibility of a compact SUV from Chevrolet in India to fight the likes of EcoSport and Duster. We have also discussed the possibility of re-badging the Opel Mokka for the Indian market.

However, something peculiar has popped up in the international automotive scene. Chevrolet has filed for patents of a compact SUV.

These patent images which were published by French magazine L’Automobile, show every angle of the upcoming Chevrolet SUV. Interestingly, it seems like GM has used bits and pieces of the Opel Mokka for making this SUV.

At first glance, it resembles a baby Captiva. The SUV features upright grille , bolder headlights, squarer bonnet and more muscular wheel arches. It features plastic body cladding, a tailgate-mounted spoiler and plenty of chrome trim. Patent filling also reveals that the buyers will be given an option of all-wheel-drive.

Time and time again, we have mentioned that if Renault and Ford get their pricing strategies right, it could spark a Compact SUV revolution in India. When that happens, every other manufacturer would require a compact SUV under its portfolio. Maruti Suzuki has already evinced interest in the segment by presenting the Concept XA Alpha at the Auto Expo in New Delhi.

In such as scenario, GM India would have to consider a compact SUV for India in the future. So are these patents glimpses of GM India’s future?
