The Onix is a Brazilian model (much like the Volkswagen Gol and Hyundai HB20) which was developed by GM Brazil on GM’s GSV platform that also underpins the Chevrolet Sonic.

In Brazil, the Chevy Onix competes against the Fiat Palio, Renault Sandero and Toyota Etios.

Soon after the Onix’s debut at the Sao Paulo Motor Show, Chevy has rolled up its sleeves to start work on a sedan version of the Onix.

Expected to be called ‘Chevrolet Prisma’, the sedan will be ‘boot job’ operation on the Onix. Here we have some spyshots showing the new Prisma testing in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

The Prisma will not get the Onix’s 1.0L engine, but a larger 1.4L flex fuel engine which generates 106 hp and 188 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 5–Speed manual or a 6-Speed automatic gearbox. It will feature some vital safety features such as ABS brakes and front airbags. The car will be equipped with Chevy’s MyLink multimedia infotainment system.

The Chevrolet Prisma will be officially revealed in the first quarter of 2013.
