Guangzhou Live - Chevrolet Sail 3 Sedan (Next gen Chevrolet Sail)

Features a longer wheelbase.

Chevrolet has taken the wraps off their next generation Sail 3 at the 2014 Guangzhou Auto Show. The next model brings in a host of changes, says the company.

Expected to go on sale in China later this year, the third generation Sail is redesigned from the ground-up. It features the familiar Chevrolet dual grille that proudly brandishes the Chevrolet Bow-Tie badge and a new set of swept-back headlamps that helps improve the modern look of the car. It has grown longer and wider, with the wheelbase being increased by 35 mm for larger cabin space than the previous generation.

Inside, Chevrolet claims that the Sail 3 reeks of "exquisite craftsmanship". They further claim that the compact sedan comes with "sculpted" seats to improve comfort, and a "flowing instrument panel". The boot can accommodate up to 366 liters of luggage.

Under the hood, the Sail 3 will come with a choice of 2 petrol engines: a 1.3-liter VVT and a 1.5 DVVT engines. GM have not divulged the power or efficiency figures of the two engines. Customers can choose either a manual or a "mechanical automatic transmission" (AMT) with Start/Stop function.

The Sail twins in India recently got minor updates, and hence the new generation Sail 3 is not expected to launch in the country at least for next year or two. In fact, it remains to be seen whether GM India even launches the new generation model, as cars like the Sail and Enjoy are perceived as 'Made in China' cars in India, and suffer from poor brand value.
