Chevrolet Spark is now Baojun Yue Chi in China

General Motors has rebadged the Chevrolet Spark (earlier the Daewoo Matiz) as the Baojun Yue Chi in China.

Baojun is a sub brand of Wuling, a company GM has a joint venture with, under the name SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile.

The three brands are in a partnership to develop low cost cars and trucks for emerging countries. India will get three products that are the fruits of this tripartite joint venture - the Enjoy MPV and the Sail twins - by the end of 2012.

The Baojun Yue Chi starts at 39,800 yuan (roughly Rs.3.5 lakhs) and goes up till 49,800 yuan (roughly Rs. 4.4 lakhs). The pricing is the same as what was offered by GM on the Chevrolet Spark.

The Baojun Yue Chi comes in 6 variants which are priced as follows:

Models

Price (Yuan)

1.0 L Manual Superior

39,800

1.0 L Manual Dynamic

43,300

1.0 L Manual Fashion

46,800

1.2L Manual Superior

42,800

1.2L Manual Dynamic

45,800

1.2L Manual Fashion

49,800

The 1.0L and the 1.2L engines are said to be developed by Daewoo. The company mentioned that this brand changeover would not affect the quality by any means and would be same as that provided by GM earlier.

China is not the only country to get a new Spark. GM India is also planning to come out with a refreshed version of the Chevrolet Spark and the Beat, which we have already informed you of earlier. We could probably see them in the showrooms by the festive period.
