IAB Exclusive - Chevrolet Spark facelift coming on October 15
Multiple sources have confirmed to Indian Autos Blog that the Chevrolet Spark facelift will launch on October 15.
GM India could have decided the date very recently to crash Maruti Suzuki's party, as the rivals have planned to launch their model on October 16.
The Spark facelift sports an aggressive grille with chrome bordering, inspired by the Chevrolet e-Spark concept showcased at the 2010 Delhi Auto Expo.
The Spark was launched 5 years ago - a car that is primarily bought for its quirky personality, relatively spacious cabin, and the unbeatable 3 year free maintenance plan, is getting long in the tooth. GM India endowed it the Spark with beige interior and shifted the readouts to the center console, but did not invest in changing body panels.
The Chevrolet Spark facelift will retain its mechanical package/carriage, and the majority of the changes will be restricted to its front end - the transformation will be slightly radical, with a more pointy and sharp stance, feature a twin-port Chevy grille seen on the other Chevy models (the Spark is among the few cars that doesn't have a front grille, so that quality or uniqueness will be forgone), differently detailed headlights and fog light enclosures.
Similarly the boot lid will be revised to bring it in line with the departure of the front-end. The interior revisions are expected to be milder, perhaps new colors and texture are on the cards. The car will continue with the same 1L petrol engine married to a 5 spd manual gearbox. GM India ruled out a Spark diesel during an interaction at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.
GM India had developed CNG technology for the Aveo, perhaps it can be modified to be used on the Spark? We'll soon know, stay tuned to IndianAutosBlog.com.
