Chevrolet Spin MPV launched in Thailand
The Indonesian manufacturing plant will also take up export assignments, and the first port of call would be Thailand.
The Spin has over 23 different types of seating configurations and the only variant available is the high-end LTZ that costs Bt 762,000 (14 lakh rupees). GM has announced that bookings for the car will begin at the Bangkok International Motor Show next week.
The Spin will be manufactured at GM Indonesia’s newly opened Bekasi plant and is sandwiched between sedans and pickups/SUV's in the local lineup.
In addition to the seating arrangement that can be configured in 23 different ways, the cabin has 32 storage spaces. The storage space is 162 liters with all the seats in position, improves to 864 liters with the third row folded down and 1,608 liters when the second row is also down.
The Spin is powered by a 1.5L four-cylinder engine that has Dual-VVT technology. It makes 107 PS at 6,000 rpm and 148 Nm at 3,800 rpm. This engine, as noted, is paired to a six-speed AT with driver-shift control.
The Spin is launched with dual air-conditioning (developed for the RHD markets), four-speaker CD/MP3 player and USB and Bluetooth connectivity. It features ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and dual front airbags. The Spin's ride, handling and NVH package have been re-looked for the Thai market.
India may not get the Spin as the Chevrolet Enjoy (a re-engineered Wuling Hongguang) will launch next month in the same segment.
