Report - Chevrolet Tavera Neo3 launched in India

GM India launched the Chevrolet Tavera Neo3 today giving it the license to occupy showrooms of the megacities as well, thanks to the new BSIV compliant engine. The new 2.0L engine now delivers more power (107PS) and with a VGT, it's expected to be more refined as well. It is paired to a 5-speed transmission. However the gas mileage has decreased to 12.2 kmpl, certified by the ARAI.

This two-liter engine is not the mill used on the Captiva or the Cruze. It has been developed with ICML, the makers of Rhino and Sonalika branded tractors.

The car is 4,435mm long, 1,680mm wide, 1,765mm high and is laid out in a wheelbase of 2,685mm. The interiors are presented in beige and dark grey with soft-feel cashmere upholstery. The instrument cluster gets ice blue illumination which looks sporty.

Seating is available in four options i.e. 10-, 9-, 8- and 7 seat configurations. The top-end variant has captain chairs. Seating space is ample but when the seats are up, luggage space shrinks almost entirely. There are lots of cubbyholes and two glove boxes that add to practicality. All three rows get aircon vents and individual controls but it is a basic unit.

The exterior is highlighted by the new headlamp assembly sporting integrated indicators, split grille, dual-tone colors (only on the top variant) and side graphics following the “Advancing Diamond” pattern. The bumpers are finished in gold color and the front bumper looks misaligned, blame the illusion on the noticeable gap between the body and the bumper.

The alloy wheels and the wheel covers are new. The car was designed and styled at the GMTCI Bangalore Studio.

Other technical changes to the car include the rear suspension which gets increased travel and gas charged dampers to make it a more comfortable experience for occupants over uneven roads.

Chevrolet managed to sell 21,000 units of the Tavera last year and hopes to improve on that number this year.
