Production Citroen Aircross SUV (Citroen C84) spied in China

Will hit the international markets later this year.

In 2015, the PSA Group unveiled the Citroen Aircross concept at Auto Shanghai, previewing a future compact SUV. In the latest, the Citroen Aircross concept's production version, internally known as 'Citroen C84', has appeared in spy shots published by autohome.com.cn.

The Citroen C84 will sit on the EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform 2) platform.

The Citroen Aircross concept measures 4.58 metres in length, 2.10 metres in width and 1.73 metres in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.80 metres. Its will be targeted at the VW Tiguan, Skoda Yeti, Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-5, and the Nissan Qashqai.

The Citroen C84 will sit on the EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform 2) platform which underpins a variety of PSA Group models, including the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso as well as the Peugeot 5008 and Peugeot 3008. Launched in 2013, the EMP2 platform offers a 70 kg reduction in weight due to the usage of lighter materials, a 22% reduction in CO2 emissions and compliance for advanced comfort, especially driver assistance, and safety technologies.

The Citroen Aircross is expected to have the 167 hp 1.6-litre and 204 hp 1.8-litre THP turbocharged units as its engine options in China.

The PSA Group will manufacture the Citroen C84 in Rennes, France, alongside the Peugeot 5008.

The PSA Group announced in June 2016 that the Citroen C84 would hit the markets within 18 months, suggesting a late-2017 launch for the vehicle. The French auto giant will manufacture the new compact SUV in Rennes, France, alongside the Peugeot 5008 and the Citroen E-Mehari. The Chinese-spec version's production may take place locally in Chengdu, alongside the Peugeot 4008.
