Daihatsu DN Trec concept at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show - Live

Daihatsu has taken the wraps off its compact lineup of concept cars at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, one of which is an SUV called the Daihatsu DN Trec. This concept from Toyota's budget-oriented manufacturer previews a possible compact SUV, which could target emerging markets.

The DN Trec is 3.98 m long, 1.69 m wide and 1.60 m tall. It is based on a less expensive version of the TNGA platform - called the DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture). Some of the features equipped include LED headlamps and fog lamps that flow sleek inlet, an inverted hexagonal grille with red highlights, 18-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, LED taillamps and a wraparound windshield. The A-pillars are painted in gloss black, while the exterior is toughened up with black plastic cladding across the bumpers, wheel arches and side skirts.

The cabin carries over the red highlights from the exterior, which can be seen on the seats, dashboard and door cards. As you would expect from a concept, everything looks simple and futuristic, featuring a variety of displays, unique patterns around the cabin, and exclusive materials.

The Daihatsu DN Trec concept may look ready to take a beating off-road, but it only comes with FWD and packs a hybrid-assisted 1.2-liter engine. Since Daihatsu is planning to set up shop in India, the DN Trec is one of the products we are expecting, as it slots perfectly amongst rivals such as the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon in the sub-4m SUV category, which is currently one of the hottest segments to capitalise.
