Daihatsu FT Concept, Daihatsu FX Concept - GIIAS 2015 Live

The FX could preview a future compact SUV to rival the Honda HR-V.

At the 2015 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (2015 GIIAS), PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) unveiled two new SUV concepts dubbed as the Daihatsu FX and Daihatsu FT.

Daihatsu FX Concept :

Daihatsu revealed the FX concept to give an idea as to what their production-spec concept SUV could look like, if they are considering to launch one. It measures 3,800 mm long, 1,690 mm wide and 1,580 mm tall, slotting it between A-segment and B-segment crossovers.

Up front, it features a slim grille with a bold chrome bar running across, sleek LED headlights, hexagonal radiator grille, LED DRL strips in the lower fascia, and a silver skid plate. At the back, it sports a similar chrome bar running across the hatch, LED taillamps, and a silver skid plate in between vertically-stacked quad exhaust tips.

Like any design concept, the interior comes with a futuristic design. The Daihatsu FX features a dual-tier instrument binnacle, a flat-bottom 3-spoke steering wheel, and large displays for the infotainment system, instrument dials. The concept also is equipped with a panoramic glass roof for an airy feeling.

The mechanical details are scarce at the moment. The production-spec model could be powered by a 1.2 litre engine, which drives the rear wheels.

Daihatsu FT Concept:

Daihatsu claims that the larger FT Concept is a “Full-scale SUV” intended to be sold as the company’s flagship model.

The exterior is characterized by a large vertical-slat chrome grille flanked by swept back LED headlamps, round foglamps, long hexagonal radiator grille, and a silver skid plate. The lower side profile comes with a silver plastic body panel fitted over regular black plastic cladding, which improves the rugged appeal of the SUV.

Daihatsu did not reveal the car’s features, but says that it has “a wide interior space that can comfortably accommodate seven passengers.”

In typical concept car fashion, the interior has a fully-digital cluster set on a two-tier dashboard, split with a blue backlight that is continued along the perimeter of the car. The lower section sports a brushed metal finish, while the upper section is upholstered in leather with contrast stitching.

Features observed on the concept are a four-spoke multi-function steering wheel, push button start, free-standing display and a stubby gear stalk. The seats and door cards are upholstered in white leather, and the front seats get extra thigh support.

Being a concept, the technical details are scarce, as of now, although reports suggest that the production-spec model could pack a 1.5-liter engine.
