Low-cost brand, Datsun, today announced the start of production of the Go hatchback. The Datsun Go, the first product from the modern day Datsun, was revealed in India in July last year.

The Datsun Go commenced production at Renault-Nissan's Chennai plant today.

The Go is built on the same 'V' platform as the Nissan Micra. It is even powered by the same 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine seen on the Micra, though Datsun's version is believed to offer better fuel efficiency. A 5-speed manual transmission will be the only gearbox on offer.

The Renault-Nissan plant located in Oragadam, Chennai, has become the first location to manufacture this Datsun. Sales of the Go will commence in India next month through a "shop-in-shop" concept. All variants of the Go will be priced under INR 4 lakhs. Also, the Go will have its ex-Showroom price standard across all states and cities in India.

Sales of the Go will start next month in India.

A pan-India roadshow was conducted by Nissan late last year, where the Go hatchback was displayed at shopping malls in major metropolitan cities such as Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai.

The Go hatchback will be showcased at the Auto Expo tomorrow alongside a range of Datsun accessories. Joining the Go on stage will be an MPV called the Go+ and a small car concept called I2.
