Datsun Russia has announced the starting price of its first offering, the Datsun on-Do sedan. The Lada Granta based car will go on sale in the country at R329,000 (around INR 5.72 lakhs).

The production of the on-Do will start at AvtoVAZ's Tolyatti plant, alongside the Lada Granta, on July 14 and the cars are expected to be dispatched to dealerships immediately.

The Datsun on-Do will enter production on July 14.

The on-Do is powered by the Granta's 1.6-litre petrol engine that develops 85.3 bhp, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The sedan will be available in three variants namely Access, Dream and Trust. The standard equipment include tilt adjustable power steering, heated seats, driver side airbag, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist and folding rear seats.

The sedan measures 4,337 mm in length, 1,700 mm in width and 1,500 mm in height. The on-Do has the best in class boot space at 530 litres.

Soon after launching the on-Do, Datsun would be unveiling its next product for the Russian market, the mi-DO hatchback (rebranded Lada Kalina) which is testing intensively in Russia.

The interior of the on-Do doesn't look as bare-bones as the Go's.

Since both models are based on heavily localized Russian platforms, it's highly unlikely for the duo to be launched elsewhere in the world.

Meanwhile in India, the sales performance of the Datsun Go hatchback hasn't met the company's expectations. The Go+ 7-seat compact MPV which is scheduled to be launched in the sub-continent later this year would be positioned at the bottom of the lucrative MPV segment renewing hopes of the Japanese brand to break into the entry-level market.
