5 things we know about the Datsun redi-GO

To launch for sale tomorrow.

Datsun will launch the Datsun redi-GO for sale on June 7. It's the company's first A-segment vehicle and shares its underpinnings with the highly successful Renault Kwid. Here are 5 things we know about the Datsun redi-GO.

Dimensions

The Datsun redi-GO measures 3,429 mm long, 1,560 mm wide, 1,541 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,348 mm. The redi-GO is slightly shorter in length than the Renault Kwid, which is 3,679 mm long. However, the redi-GO has a best-in-class ground clearance of 185 mm. Boot volume is 222 liters.

Engine

Powering the Datsun redi-GO is a 0.8L three cylinder petrol engine with i-SAT tech, which produces 54 hp at 5,678 rpm and 72 Nm of torque at 4,386 rpm. It is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, and is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 15.98 seconds; a best-in-class figure. The redi-GO can average an ARAI-certified fuel economy of 25.17 km/L, making it one of the most fuel efficient petrol cars in India.

Variants

As seen in a leaked brochure, the Datsun redi-GO will come in five variants: D, A, T, T(O), S. Furthermore, Datsun will offer accessory kits for the redi-GO named Easy Kit-Sport, Easy Kit-Premium, Kool Kit, Urban Kit and Style Kit.

Features

The top-end Datsun redi-GO S will be equipped with LED daytime running lights, front power windows, power steering, a music system with radio/CD/USB/AUX input and a drivers airbag. Note that the driver's airbag is only standard in the top-end grade, and not offered as an option in lower variants.

Price

Datsun had prematurely revealed the starting price of the Datsun redi-GO in its website, which was immediately taken down. From a screenshot of the leak, it appears that the redi-GO's pricing will start from INR 2,39,500 (Ex-showroom). The pricing undercuts all its rivals in the market, and is INR 13,000 cheaper than the entry-level grade of the Renault Kwid, which starts from INR 2.62 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
