Datsun redi-Go production version spotted testing for the first time - Spied

Will be based on the CMF-A platform.

Courtesy of Motor Vikatan, the production-spec Datsun redi-Go has been snapped testing for the first time, in Chennai.

The redi-Go will be based on the CMF-A platform.

The production-spec Datsun redi-Go (codenamed Datsun I2) will be the second product to ride on the CMF-A platform, and it is likely to draw influence from the frugal engineering concept that the Renault Kwid is built around, for competitive pricing.

However, the exterior design will be different from the Kwid, and would look close to the redi-Go concept that was revealed at the Auto Expo 2014. As seen in the spyshot, the pre-production model features a crossover-esque styling similar to its cousin Kwid. It appears to ride on the same wheel and tyre size as the Kwid, which could point to a three lug-nut set-up in the redi-Go as well.

Under the hood, the Datsun I2 is likely to pack the 800 cc three cylinder engine from the Renault Kwid, which produces 54 PS @ 5,678 rpm and 72 Nm of torque @ 4,386 rpm in the latter. Initially, it will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox while an AMT gearbox could be in the cards for a later period.

Given Datsun's entry-level position in Renault-Nissan family, the production-spec redi-Go could be priced even lower than the Kwid. It will compete against the well established Maruti Alto 800 when launched this financial year.
