Datsun have released a sketch of their first car for the Russian market. Before we go any further, we must mention that this car is not for the Indian market, as confirmed to Indian Autos Blog by Datsun India.

Datsun says that this car was developed specifically for the Russian market, though the design process was carried out in Japan. Development was done locally by an "international team" of Nissan engineers.

Datsun will announce the name of the sedan on April 4.

The car, which sports a sedan bodystyle, will be unveiled on April 4 in Moscow and will mark the brand's entry into Russia. However, this sedan has been spied multiple times without any camouflage.

The sedan here is reported to be based on the Lada Granta's platform, a popular budget family sedan that is completely localized in Russia. It will offer the same brand values as that of the Datsun Go (which is launching in India on March 19) such as peace of mind ownership, accessibility, transparent price and a competitive total cost of ownership, says Datsun.

Sales of Datsun in Russia will commence this year. A website, www.datsun.ru, is also up and running allowing visitors to register for new updates on the brand. More details, including the name of the car, will be announced on April 4.

As per previous reports, Datsun Russia will target the used car market, currently at 6 million units a year, as well as the sub-400k ruble new car price point which accounts for 25 percent of the 700k unit overall market size, tipped to grow to 900k by 2017.
