Ducati Scrambler 400 gets an L-twin air-cooled engine - Spied

Expected to debut at the 2015 EICMA.

What appears to be the reported Ducati Scrambler 400 has been spied on test for the first time, in Italy.

The Ducati Scrambler prototype is powered by an L-twin air-cooled engine, contradicting earlier reports which mentioned a single-cylinder motor will be used.

The spyshots reveal that the motorcycle which is believed to be powered by an all-new 400 cc engine features an air-cooled L-Twin motor. This contradicts earlier reports which suggested a single-cylinder motor would be found aboard. The existing model, the Ducati Scrambler 800, is powered by an L-Twin liquid-cooled engine.

The test mule gets a regular telescopic fork and a smaller headlamp, indicating that it is indeed a lower version of the Ducati Scrambler.

Another notable feature spotted on the test mule is the conventional telescopic front suspension, while the Scrambler 800 uses an inverted fork. The smaller Scrambler is believed to be based on a reengineered version of the larger Scrambler's chassis, which would be lighter. The exhaust-end on the prototype seems to be a makeshift unit, not the production-spec.

The new entry-level Ducati is expected to debut on November 16, before the 2015 EICMA. This motorcycle would be one of nine premieres the Italian two-wheeler maker is planning for the show next month.
