The utterly saucy Fiat Viaggio was designed for consumption in the Chinese market. However, a test mule was spotted in spiritual hometown Turin, Italy indicating that Fiat is interested in trying to sell the Viaggio to the European family.

The test mule dons a scanty camouflage which reveals that no changes have been done to the body.

The Fiat Viaggio (a.k.a Fei Xiang as it is called in China) was showcased at the 2012 Beijing Motor show. Essentially, it is a re-skinned Dodge Dart based on the CCUSW platform. It measures 4,679 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and sports a 2,708 mm wheelbase. It is powered by a 1.4L T-Jet turbocharged engine with two outputs – 120 HP and 150 HP mated to a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed Dual Dry Clutch transmission.

The Fiat Viaggio was developed to increase Fiat’s market share in China. The Guangzhou-Fiat joint venture will produce the Viaggio at the GAC-Fiat production plant in Changsha, in the Hunan province of China. This will be Fiat China's first locally produced model.

Fiat has not sold an all-new saloon in Europe for five years now. Considering the all new Punto and Linea are three years away, the Viaggio is a perfect add on to the European portfolio complementing the 500L crossover.

Back home, Fiat India is focusing on establishing the dealership network. As a result, the company has limited the existing portfolio to Punto and Linea. Once the dealerships are in place, Fiat will start unloading new products such as the indigenous sub 4 lakh hatchback and may be the Viaggio as well.
