Will launch in the last quarter of the year.

Ford South Africa has announced that the new Ford Figo hatchback and Ford Figo sedan will be launched in the last quarter of the year.

Simply 'Figo Sedan', the India-made model will compete with the Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Brio Sedan and Hyundai Xcent in Africa.

Ford India's spokesperson confirmed to IndianAutosBlog.com that the full-size Ford Figo sedan will be shipped to South Africa and other export markets from the Sanand plant. The sub-4m Figo Aspire, he said, was "specifically designed for India but if opportunities exists, will be sold overseas". Also, Ford India currently don't plan on introducing the full-size sedan locally.

South Africa and Mexico have a strong pull for the current gen Figo hatchback, but it is for the first time that a Figo sedan is being exported.

Though specifications are not given in the press release, Ford SA confirms petrol and diesel engines, and manual and automatic transmission options. The range will be "broader" than currently with "more derivatives and specification levels". For India, Ford confirmed that it will offer 1.2-liter petrol and 1.5-liter diesel engine in manual guise, and an automatic transmission option for the Aspire petrol.

Besides the longer boot and the different alloy wheel design, there is no change in the Figo Sedan comparing it to the Figo Aspire.

Features confirmed for the South African Figo are a docking station, Bluetooth with Voice Activation, the programmable MyKey function, and auto climate control. Even the base variant will get ABS and dual front airbags, extending to full-length side airbags on top-spec variants. Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Hill Launch Assist will be present on the top derivatives.
