Ford Freestyle launched in India at INR 5.09 lakhs

The Ford Freestyle has been launched in India at a starting price of INR 5.09 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). Dubbed as a CUV or Compact Utility Vehicle, the Freestyle is based on the Figo hatchback and positioned as an entry-level crossover below the Ford EcoSport.

Features

As announced earlier, the Ford Freestyle is being offered in four grades – Ambiente, Trend, Titanium, and Titanium+. ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, reverse parking sensors, and rear fog lamp are standard across all trims. The base Ambiente trim gets only front power windows.

Notable additions to the features list of Trend over Ambiente are a rearview camera, front fog lamps, all four power windows, touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and USB support, four speakers, steering mounted audio controls, black B & C pillars, ORVM mounted turn indicators, Sienna seat upholstery, tachometer with gear shift indicator and load compartment light.

To the Trend's list, the Titanium grade adds 15-inch alloy wheels, driver seat height adjustment, rear washer and wiper, push-button start, height adjustable seat belt, electrically adjustable and folding ORVM, automatic climate control, silver finish roof rails and front and rear skid plates, and 5.8 inch MID.

In its range-topping Titanium+ guise, the Ford Freestyle, in addition to the features offered on Titanium grade, gets side and curtain airbags, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, Ford MyKey, SYNC3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and glove box light.

Specifications

The Ford Freestyle is longer, wider, and taller than the Figo. It measures 3,954 mm long, 1,737 mm wide, 1,570 mm tall, and rides on a 2,490 mm wheelbase. Ford's new 1.2 L 3-cylinder petrol engine producing 96 PS and 120 Nm makes its debut here. It has a fuel efficiency rating of 19.0 km/l overall as per ARAI. The diesel variant is powered by Figo’s 1.5 L TDCi unit developing 100 PS and 215 Nm. Claimed fuel efficiency stands at 24.4 km/l. Both engines are paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Compared to the current Figo, the Freestyle gets a finer mesh grille, a revised front and rear bumper, and body cladding all around. It has a wider track and, at 190 mm, a higher ground clearance as well. The headlamp and tail lamp clusters are slightly different as well. Inside, the dashboard sees the introduction of a floating 6.5-inch touchscreen.

The Ford Freestyle had its world premiere in India in January 2018. Besides India, the CUV will be sold in the South American market. It will also reach Europe where it will be sold as the Ford Ka+ Active.
