Rendering - Ford Ka-based compact sedan coming to Auto Expo
We had reported earlier that Ford would bring a sedan based on the new Ka concept to the Auto Expo 2014. Brazilian web portal, revistaautoesporte.globo.com, has rendered what this sedan could look like. The new Ka concept was unveiled in November last year in Brazil.
Ford had earlier teased us with the news of a global debut, announcing, "New global concept showcases Ford’s design direction for a new vehicle aimed at consumers in India and other emerging markets. The Concept vehicle reflects Ford’s vision for premium global design in the compact car segment".
The Ka hatchback will be put into production by Ford Brazil in either March or April this year, with a launch planned for in May. We believe that the Ford Ka hatchback could either replace the Ford Figo in India, or be positioned at a segment above it, taking on the likes of the Hyundai i20 and VW Polo.
Ford India could do with a sub-4 meter compact sedan. The sales of cars in that segment has remained high, despite the overall negative sentiment. On the other hand, the segment is only getting more competitive with Tata Motors set to unveil the Falcon 5, a sub-4 meter compact sedan version of the Manza. Hyundai too will enter this space with the Grand i10 based compact sedan.
