Ford India's first ever two-door, V8-powered offering.

Ford India has confirmed the arrival of the all new Ford Mustang at the pre-Auto Expo event in Delhi, India today. It will launch in Q2 2016, Ford India confirmed. They have also unveiled the India-spec model in the metal.

Ford has confirmed the Mustang GT variant for India.

This is the first 2-door model from Ford India for the local market, and will be sold as a niche product that serves as the company’s image builder. Unlike Ford India’s product range, the Mustang will be imported via the CBU route from the Mustang's home in Flat Rock, Michigan.

The reason why the modern Mustang wasn’t available in India all this while is attributed to its availability only as a left-hand-drive variant, until the current generation. With the new Mustang, Ford has decided to enter new markets by offering it in right-hand-drive for the first time, making it accessible to more customers looking to own Ford’s iconic pony car.

The only variant available is the Mustang GT, which packs a N/A 5.0-liter V8 engine paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox that sends 435 hp and 542 Nm of power to the rear wheels only. This is also the first Mustang to feature independent suspension at the rear for better comfort and handling. A performance pack will come standard for Indian buyers.
