Geneva Live - Ford EcoSport for Europe is here

Moments ago, Ford Europe unveiled the EcoSport for the old continent sporting some unique features. The model will hit the markets in late 2013. The European model features Ford's SYNC voice-activated in-car connectivity and SYNC Emergency Assistance.

Last month, the EcoSport made a quick stop at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The same vehicle has been brought to Geneva, and here's the lowdown on the differences.

The EcoSport features Ford SYNC AppLink that lets customers voice-control apps on the smartphone using voice. It is based on Ford's global B-Platform and its key features are spaciousness, high driving position and "go anywhere" appeal of an SUV, according to the company.

Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance directly connects the occupants of the vehicle to local emergency services operators immediately after an accident. The right language for an introductory message is chosen using the inputs from the on-board GPS unit.

For Europe, Ford will use the 1-litre Ecoboost turbocharged petrol engine in the 125 PS spec alongside a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre 110 PS petrol and a 90 PS 1.5-litre diesel engine. The conventional petrol and diesel motors are available on the Fiesta in India.

Ford has confirmed that the car will be loaded with features such as Electronic Stability Program and Hill Launch Assist for the European markets.
