Harley-Davidson CKD product prices hiked

Harley-Davidson has hiked the prices of its CKD offerings in India post the recent tax revision of CKD and CBU motorcycles.

The Street Rod is now dearer by INR 37,000, at INR 6.45 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi.

For Completely Knocked Down (CKD) bikes, if the powertrain (engine and gearbox assembly) are in pre-assembled form, but not mounted on the body assembly, then the customs duty 25%. This is down from 30% earlier. However, for engine, gearbox and transmission mechanism not in a pre-assembled condition, the duty stands at 15%; which has increased from 10%. This has resulted in the price increase of all CKD Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The old and new price of the CKD products are as follows:

Harley-Davidson introduced the 2018 Softail range in the country in October, this year.

While the tax change for CKD products has negatively impacted the brand, its CBU range witnessed price cuts. Both Touring and CVO range enter the country via the CBU route. Harley-Davidson’s CBU offerings start from INR 24.99 lakhs for the Road King. Coming to the CKD range, the least expensive product is the Street 750, which costs INR 5.25 lakhs. In the international market, the cult bike maker unveiled Iron 1200 and Forty-Eight Special. The company recently applied for the trademark of the name ‘H-D Revelation’. The name is for the components of its upcoming electric motorcycle. It will reportedly be ready within 18 months.
