HMIL earmarks more volumes for export than domestic of next-gen Hyundai Verna

The next-gen Verna is confirmed for its Indian release in H2 2017.

Speaking to IndianAutosBlog at the 2017 Hyundai Xcent's launch, Y.K Koo, MD of Hyundai Motor India Limited, has divulged that the company will export more units of the next generation Verna to international markets than produce for domestic sales.

The next-gen Verna is reported to offer the same powertrains as the current model, but will offer more features and perhaps a mild-hybrid ariant.

Confirming that the model will launch in the second half of the year, he said:

This (next-gen Verna) is a major product for export. Even domestic market we are expecting good numbers, but export volume is much higher. So HMIL will be a production hub for our HMC export to global market.

HMIL currently exports its lineup to more than 92 countries, which include the Middle East, Africa, Asia or the Latin America. It was also country’s largest exporter of passenger vehicles in FY 2016-17, in which the most popular products were the Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Grand i10 series.

India will be the fourth production hub for the next gen Verna, following South Korea (Accent), China and Russia (Solaris). Mr Koo is yet to divulge the list of countries that the new Verna will target, but expect it to be sold in most (if not all) markets where the Hyundai Creta is sold. Production will start in the second half of this year at the factory in Chennai.
