Honda 2W to debut "revolutionary model" at Auto Expo 2016; CBR650F coming in July - IAB Report

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has announced its plan for fiscal year 2015-16. The Japanese manufacturer has announced that it will debut a "revolutionary model" at the Auto Expo 2016, which is scheduled to take place in February 2016.

The new model could be placed below the Activa series of scooters, targeting the rural market.

Mr. Keita Muramatsu, President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. and President, Honda Motor India, said that the product will "revolutionize the Indian two-wheeler industry and create a new segment by itself". Further details remain unknown though. According to various reports, the product is likely to be a new entry-level scooter that would target the rural markets of India.

On the sidelines, HMSI announced that it will start local assembly of the Honda CBR650F at its Manesar plant beginning July this year. Initially, only 5 percent of the bike will be localized in India and the rest will be imported, the manufacturer said.

The 650F would retail from 20 locations in India to begin with.

The CBR650F will initially be available across 20 locations in India, and production will be capped to 2 units a day. Power for the middleweight comes from an inline-four cylinder, 649 cc liquid-cooled engine which is capable of 87 bhp and 62 Nm of torque, matched to a 6-speed transmission.
