Our friends at IndianCarsBikes.in have reported that Honda India is all set to introduce the automatic transmission variant of the Brio in India on the 18th of October.

Indian Autos Blog is attending the media drive in New Delhi today and we promise to bring you our impressions on the new Brio variant sooner than you think.

Honda is pairing a 5-speed automatic transmission to the 1.2L petrol engine which is a torque converter unit and not the more expensive CVT. This will help Honda shave off some costs, as the B Segment is very price sensitive.

As IndianCarsBikes.in rightly points out, a premium of a few thousands can break the chances of the Brio AT.

The automatic gearbox is borrowed from the Honda City, with alterations in the gear ratios to suit the smaller application. It may command a premium of about 50k rupees over the manual transmission. The ARAI certified fuel economy figure stands at 16.5kmpl.

As we've explained in the past, the Brio AT is not a volume spinner. There is little doubt that the Brio AT will contribute to about 20% or less of the total Brio volume, but its an important inclusion considering there is a dearth of AT vehicles in the B segment.
