Honda Civic History in India

Honda Civic is one of the most successful running models on Civic’s product line-up. The Civic made its debut in the Indian market back in 2006. At the time of its launch, the executive sedans became an instant hit. It was considered a very revolutionary model compared to other contemporary sedans back then. Honda Civic found its audience who were looking for an upgrade from the Honda City and but were put off by the bland Corolla. However, in 2012, Honda has pulled the plug off the Honda Civic, which has saddened many fans in India. It took the Japanese car brand 7 years to bring the Honda Civic back to the Indian market. Honda Civic went back on sale in 2019. The new Honda Civic remained the spirit of its predecessor with an attractive design and refined engines. However, it has been discontinued again in 2020.

2020 Honda Civic

On its return to the market, Honda Civic did not receive such overwhelming responses as it did on its debut. However, Honda still managed to put together an offer that would attract Indian customers. It features an attractive and premium design, excellent riding and handling ability. On top of that, it’s Honda Civic’s built-to-last quality that makes the car desirable for Indian customers.

Honda Civic Variants

Honda Civic is available in three trims, V, VX and top-spec ZX. As expected from an executive model, Honda Civic comes with a pretty impressive feature list. From the base variant, Honda Civic offers LED tail lamps, DRLs, 16-inch diamond-cut alloys, keyless entry, electric mirrors, paddle shifter, and rear air vents.

On the mid-range models, Honda Civic gets some top-notch features like an eight-way powered driver seat, touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, auto-dimming mirrors, and ambient lighting.

For the top-spec model, the executive sedan is equipped with full-LED auto headlights, bigger 17-inch alloys, rain-sensing wipers, and a sunroof.

Honda Civic Safety

From the standard variants, Honda Civic is provided with an impressive feature kit including ABS with EBD, four airbags, hill-start assist, ESP, reverse camera, and parking sensors. Honda Civic gets both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine is a 1.8-litre petrol unit that is mated exclusively to a CVT. Honda Civic’s petrol engine is capable of delivering a top power of 141 BHP and a top torque of 174 Nm. It is worth pointing out that the Civic carries forwards the same petrol engine that powered the old model.  Even though the petrol engine of Honda Civic was updated to meet the modern standard, it is still underpowered when compared to other units in the respective segment.

Honda Civic’s diesel engine is a 1.6-litre unit that gets a 6-speed manual gearbox. It is the same engine employed on the CR-V. However, it missed out on the automatic option. On the bright side, the Civic diesel offers an outstanding ARAI mileage of 26.82 kmpl.
