Indonesia - Local production of Honda HR-V (Vezel) confirmed; badge typeface revealed
The Honda HR-V which is called as the Vezel in the JDM market has been confirmed to be locally produced in Indonesia.
The compact crossover which will make its Indonesian debut at the IIMS in September would enter production in the country starting from early next year, said Mr. Jonfis Fandy, head of marketing and after Sales, PT Honda Prospect Motor. During the announcement, Honda revealed the typeface of the new HR-V's badge for the first time.
Based on the same underpinnings as the new Jazz and City, the Vezel is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre petrol hybrid powertrain. It is available in both FWD and AWD configurations. The regular petrol model is mated to a CVT or a 7-stepped CVT with paddle shifters whereas the hybrid model is equipped with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.
For Indonesia, only the 1.5-litre petrol engine would be available in FWD configuration to keep the costs competitive. The motor develops 131 PS (129.1 bhp) and 155 Nm of torque.
The car would be positioned below the CR-V to take on the likes of the Nissan Juke. Though the HR-V is a size larger than the Ford EcoSport and caters to a higher price segment, the latter would also be considered as a rival.
Competitors: Nissan Juke, Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster
