Hyundai AH2 (Hyundai Santro) spotted testing in Pune
Hyundai's upcoming hatchback for the Indian market will arrive in the second half of 2018. The Hyundai AH2 (codename) will, reportedly, revive the Hyundai Santro nameplate in India. PowerDrift has shared fresh spy shots of the AH2 via its Facebook page.
Underpinned by the first generation Hyundai i10's platform as per reports, the 2018 Hyundai Santro will be bigger than the original and promises a spacious interior. While the camouflage successfully masks much of the exterior design, expect it to follow Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 philosophy and incorporate signature elements like the 'cascading' grille.
The Hyundai AH2 aka Hyundai Santro may receive a reworked version of the old Hyundai i10’s 1.1-litre iRDE2 four-cylinder petrol engine. The company has confirmed that the hatchback will be the first product to receive an AMT gearbox developed in-house.
The first unit of the AH2's engine, presumably for testing, was produced in October 2017. As evident from numerous spy shots, it has been undergoing extensive road testing for over a year and been spotted in cold weather tests in Europe. According to a media report from last month, the Hyundai AH2 will go on sale in August 2018. It will rival the Maruti Celerio and Tata Tiago with prices falling in the INR 3-5 lakh (ex-showroom) bracket.
